Review: Sweetest Taboo

Sweetest Taboo Sweetest Taboo by J. Kenner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 I KNEW IT Stars!!!

*received ARC from Netgalley in exchange for honest review*

Sweetest Taboo immediately picks up from the ending of Hottest Mess and it does not disappoint! That ending from the last book ... still left me feeling "What the hell"?!

Jane was taken, and now he has to find a way to bring her back before the psycho bitch does anything to harm not only her, but Dallas himself. And now Dallas is out to set the world on fire ... I can't say what happens, but just KNOW that this too will be your feelings.

This had me on the edge of my seat. Even being sick with a head cold couldn't turn me away! I needed answers, and they provided ALL of them. Every last thing you wanted to know was uncovered.

And in the end, love concurred all. As well it should. J. Kenner delivers another winner. I wouldn't be adverse to seeing more Dallas Sykes in future novels ... *hint, Hint*

TRSOR Hosted Book Tour of Burn by Elisabeth Grace!

Are you ready for more Marco?
The conclusion to the Duplicity Duet is NOW LIVE!

One word.
Two letters.
But those two letters changed everything.
It was impossible to predict the impact I would have on the life of the only woman I'd ever truly loved. No way to know that I would result in her ruin.
I’d suffer for eternity with the knowledge that it was me who brought devastation to her doorstep.
Though I deserved the anguish I felt, to see her suffer was unacceptable.
I would fix this.
Somehow I would prove to her that I wasn't the monster she thought I was.
Even if it meant becoming a monster in order to make that happen.

Then the door swung open and there he was. For a brief moment I was taken by his handsome features—his olive skin and pronounced jaw, the sparkle in his dark eyes, his perfect, straight nose. More than anything, it was the pull that remained between us that surprised me. Like I was a planet still circling his sun.
There was a moment when we locked eyes that the gravity of all that had happened wasn’t weighing heavy between us, and it almost caused me to stumble back.
Then, after the moment of intimacy had passed, I was sure I saw dread slip over his expression. I wasn’t going to stay put and find out though.
I wouldn’t be standing on his doorstep begging for whatever scraps of information he deemed worthy of casting my way. No, I was here to demand what he, at the very least, owed me, and I wouldn’t leave until he gave it to me.
“We need to talk.” I pushed past him, careful not to make contact, and bolted down the hallway toward the living room.
“Emily, this isn’t a good time.” Marco’s footsteps followed quickly behind me.
“I don’t care. Put aside whatever it is you’re doing. I want answers.”
I came to an abrupt stop when I stepped into the living/dining area and found Alexa sprawled across the couch like she was a feast ready to be enjoyed.
Her blouse was half unbuttoned, her legs draped over the cushions, causing her skirt to ride up a bit on her thighs, and her lips slightly swollen. Her lipstick had been rubbed off her mouth and onto her skin. She wore a saccharine smile that I wanted to rip off her face.
I crossed my arms over my chest and turned back to Marco. “Oh, I see. Well, pardon me for interrupting.” There was no disguising the venom in my voice.
His tortured gazed darted from me to her and back a few times before he schooled his features and responded. “Can we have this conversation some other time?” he asked, his voice neutral.
“Marco, who’s this?” Alexa purred from behind me.
I spun to address her with a fake smile on my face. “I’m Emily. We met at the art show a few months ago when I was there with Marco. Back when we were still fucking. You can call me Brandi, though.” I turned to lock gazes with him before finishing. “Everyone who knows me intimately does.”
His fists clenched at his sides and his jaw tightened. Good. Some small part of me was pleased that I was still able to elicit a reaction like that from him.
I swung my attention back to the blonde on the couch. “I’m sorry to swing by unannounced like this and interrupt what was obviously going to be a good time for you both. I just need a few minutes with Marco, and then I’ll be out of your hair.”
Alexa’s eyes narrowed on me for a moment, and though she was playing nice with me—probably for Marco’s benefit—it was clear she wasn’t pleased with the interruption.
“Perhaps I should go,” she said.
“No!” Marco said, whip fast. “Emily should be the one to leave.”
Not going to lie.
That stung.
A lot.
No matter that everything between Marco and I had been based on lies, the fact that I was so easily tossed aside smarted.
“I’m not going anywhere until we speak.” I leveled him with a gaze that told him I was serious.
“Why don’t you use my bathroom to freshen up, Alexa? It’s that way through my bedroom.” He pointed toward the room that we’d spent many a night in. “I’ll meet you there in a few minutes.”
A victorious smile crept across her face, and her gaze swung to me as she rose from the couch. She brushed her fingers across Marco’s chest as she passed him. “Don’t be too long.”
He nodded but didn’t spare her a glance as she passed, his gaze still fixed on me.
As soon as the bedroom door closed, I spoke. “Sorry to interrupt your play time, Marco, but you owe me some answers and I’m ready to collect.”

Review: A Gift of Time

A Gift of Time A Gift of Time by Beth Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 Heartbroken, but my Heart is also Healed & Uplifted Stars

*received ARC from author in exchange for an honest review*

I really need to sleep on this one ... it'll be a long peeps! I'm still ALL over the place about how exactly I feel about what went down.

Lots of story-lines were tied up and a possible spin off was introduced ;)

What I took away was this -

I felt this story was about two heart finding their way back to each other, without the lies and half truths, the violence of the gang, living for the future while remembering not to repeat the mistakes of the past. That was paramount from the beginning of the series, to this ending of this book.

I also found Ginny more self-assertive and feisty in this book. And I loved that about her. She truly found out who she was - without Grizz and Tommy. She came into her own and wasn't backing down this time. She wasn't going to be kept in the dark any longer and no longer was she happy to place herself there - she wanted truth and was given it.

The best part of the story to me was the family dynamics. Finally finding what has always truly been desired - without really knowing it - FAMILY. Getting a second chance not only with loved ones, but with those that were left behind as well. A chance to make things right.

I cried during several parts of this story, especially at the end of the first part. Had me bawling tears, I actually had to put the book down for an hour or so to calm myself down enough to finish the rest. Beth wrote a beautiful piece about "going home" and realizations. #‎truth‬

Simply put - EVERYTHING that I could have possibly want to happen - HAPPENED.

Thank you Beth for writing this book and being true to the outcome you always saw happening. <3

Review: Burn

Burn Burn by Elisabeth Grace

Final Score - 4. 5 Stars...

Review to come...

***received ARC from author in exchange for an honest review*

I've had to time to reflect on this book. It's so different from the first, which has me grasping my hair at every turn.

While I enjoyed the book and how it ended, I was left a bit confused - especially since the ending of the first book hinted at a revenge aspect in this one... but it wasn't carried out. I wanted to see the revenge carried out! I was rooting for it. It was all but abandoned, that just didn't sit well with me.

Why have your main character go to all these lengths that she went to, in the name of REVENGE, just to have her abruptly abandon them and no retribution? It was wrapped in a neat and tidy bow - which is so not how I envisioned it.

Don't get me wrong, I was glad ... but felt a bit deceived by it.

Review: An Indecent Proposal

An Indecent Proposal An Indecent Proposal by Katee Robert
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 HOLY MOLY Stars!!!

***received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

Again, "The Godfather" has got NOTHING on this series... thus far!

This story focuses on the O'Malley's again ... in particular Cillian. He's suffering still from the events in the last book. He's become an alcoholic mess, striking out at the risk of his own life. He can also be sweet, loving, & especially passionate - where one woman is concerned...

Olivia is the black sheep of a power Russian family. She smart, tough, and a fierce mother. She understands that being born female and a bastard at that means that she is used as a means to end. However, she's trying to raise her daughter away from that life - a life neither of them ever asked for.

Crime Family's, 1 Hell of a brother, and an ex with an ax to grind - who will be left standing this time... and who will have to make sacrifices?

What I liked/loved about this book: Cillian and Olivia's relationship. It did not start out traditional at ALL (cause lets face it, a casual hook-up in an alley?), but while it started that way, it was the bond that kept them coming back to one another when life & family obligations got the best of them. When these two love, they love HARD, & FAST, & DIRTY! Not even a homicidal ex and an evil dictator like brother could stop these two from wanting they very thing they should have - each other. I was not at all impressed by Dmitri, this time around. The fact that he breezed in & out of the book left me wishing he would just fade away more & more. This guy is a real threat to not only Olivia but her daughter as well.

What I disliked/hated about this book: The O'Malley Father. Bastard. A complete & utter dick & jerk! STILL!!! No wonder he's children never come to him for advice or help - he's useless! Sergei was another character I just couldn't understand. He's utterly cruel and I was left to wonder what exactly it was about him that intrigued Olivia to get involved with him. He puts Dmitri and the family above all else.

I can't wait for the next book in the series... this one will deal with Sloan. I'm nervous though about what her book/story could bring to pass. However, I know it will be an interesting read!

The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.

I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.

He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.

So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.

When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.

I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room.  Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.

When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.

But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood.

My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.

When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.

I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?

Then again…

What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?

bossman teaser 4.jpg

“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where—”
I froze.
The sight of Chase standing there was almost enough to knock me over. I’d secretly hoped to see him, yet never thought I actually would. What are the chances? I did a double take, sure I was seeing things. But it was him all right, in the flesh. And what flesh it is. Standing there shirtless and wet—wearing nothing but a pair of low-slung swim trunks—he had me stuttering. Literally.
“Ch…Ch…Ch—” I couldn’t get the word out.
Of course, Chase didn’t miss a beat. He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”
He remembers me.
I shook my head, attempting to snap myself out of it. But it was no use. He was so tall, and I was so short, I had no choice but to stare at his body. Water trickled down his abs. I was mesmerized watching it speed up and slow down as it crossed the rippled lines of his six-pack. Damn.
I cleared my throat and finally spoke. “Chase.”
I was pretty freaking proud of myself for getting that much out. He had a towel slung around his neck and lifted it to dry off his dripping hair, revealing even more flesh. His pectoral muscles were carved and perfect. And—oh, my God…is that… Holy shit. It is. His nipples were cold and erect, and one of them was….was…pierced.
