Review: My Skylar

My Skylar My Skylar by Penelope Ward
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 I Lost A Nights Sleep Reading This... and It Was SO Worth It Stars!

After everything I've read this year, this book will be sticking with me a LONG time afterward. I just knew it wouldn't be a book I could easily put down - and was I right! I didn't even mind losing a night sleep to get this read. Every single frustrating, wanting to knock skulls together moments just fueled my desire to see the end product. And I'm happy with the results.

I can't say much, or else I'm giving away the plot & I hate it when people do that! But if you come across this book - GET IT! Skylar and Mitch are worth the never-ending roll-a-coaster ride you will be on during the reading of this book. And when I say never-ending, it is just that. YOU will most definitely:

but in the end, you will love having gone through the gauntlet of emotions that this book is sure to bring out of you. And what's more -you'll be begging for more. Or maybe that's just me *wink*

Another satisfying read. And Penelope Ward book that I'm forever hooked on. Definitely on my TBR list for LIFE!

Review: Dirtiest Secret

Dirtiest Secret Dirtiest Secret by J. Kenner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 OMG What Now? Stars!!!

***received ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

Dallas Sykes! Ladies, he did not disappoint. Rugged, handsome, wolfish, suedo-manwhore. He was EVERYTHING and more! I had to sleep last night after I finished this book, so I could gather my thoughts about this book, but I'm still reeling! He was that good - so worthy of being apart of the Stark Series.

Abandon by his birth parents, raised by his uncle and aunt (they later adopted him) - Dallas never wanted for anything. Except the one thing he could have - Jane. These two are not only star-crossed, but a sick twist of fate has made them family. How cruel!

An tragic incident in their past not only drew them "together", but is also now tearing them apart - Jane & Dallas have lost touch. And while Jane has masked her pain/anguish with a failed marriage, Dallas sleeps with random women and is known as "The King of F**k". But neither are happy in their roles now, still drawn together, but never being "together".

I felt for them. I shouted with them. I roared with them at the unfairness of it all! There has to be some way they can be together - THERE JUST HAS TO BE!!! Dallas & Jane need a break here - and boy, did they get one ... or was it two or three? *wink*

I have my theories on what happened in the past, and I imagine those details will be divulged in the 2 books to come in this new S.I.N. series, but what lasting effects will it have on Dallas and Jane? Will it bring them closer? Or tear them further apart?

I cannot WAIT for Hottest Mess. I need more Dallas. And I desperately need more answers!

Review: His to Love

His to Love His to Love by Stacey Lynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Final Score - 4.5 How Could She EVER Forgive Him Stars?

***received ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

I'm still reeling here and I literally just put the book down to jump here & write this review!

Gabriella. Blue. Mafia princess. Innocent. She knows what her father is, but he's FAMILY - and family sticks together, no matter what!

Tyson. Blackbird. FBI agent. Liar. He knows the man who killed his father needs to be brought down, but at what cost?

From the very beginning I knew this would end badly. And while I get why Tyson needed to bring Jimmy down, the price... wasn't worth it to me IMO. It was immoral, unconscionable, and just down-right WRONG what he did & how he went about it. I would NEVER be able to forgive him, even if I loved him since forever. And that's the thing that doesn't sit well with me - Blue basically in the end kind of said "It's okay you lied me, just so long as you don't do it again". Uh, what? No! HELL NO!

I feel like she should have stressed how while she still loves - because she does - this would always be a sore spot between them and something that she would never be able to move past. No matter how much she hated her father, or the fact that they weren't close - Tyson betrayed her in the worse way imaginable - even more so than her own father - and it felt to me like it got swept under the rug. I just don't believe that... can't believe that.

And I get it, Tyson wasn't in a good position - between his job & the woman he's always loved, but man... there are just some lines you NEVER cross and he crossed ever single one of them. I guess what really makes me unforgiving is that he basically begged Blue not to let her father come between them again, but yet he made it so that her dad would come between them no matter what. Ugh!!!

Malik gave me the creepy vibe from day 1. No one with the crap he was involved in. Jimmy did nothing to warm my heart as a father especially with his treatment of Blue. He did deserve what he got in the end, I just wish it wasn't at his daughter's expense.

This story was a great read as I read nearly 20 chapters last night just to get caught up & finished, but man... the toll. I don't know if I could read this again, knowing the outcome, but I did enjoy the emotional roll-a-coaster ride. Great writing!

Review: Sparrow

Sparrow Sparrow by L.J. Shen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Final Score - 4.5 I'm Still Reeling Stars!

Whoa! I've literally just finished reading this book and that's my first thought afterward - W-H-O-A! I saw some of the parts coming (if you paid attention, you would too) and the others weren't much of a shock as much as I was left wondering ... How could they ever move forward from this?

Troy. What can I say about him that already hasn't been said? I understand his reasoning for what his does - wouldn't you want revenge against the person who took someone important away from you? But his actions and the methods he uses... that's what Sparrow has so much trouble with. And how do you rationalize falling for a person you perceive to be a monster & reconcile that?

Sparrow. She understands him - they grew up in the same neighborhood - so much more than anyone else really. She's got the same thought processes as he does, some of the same codes... but she knows that being tough, doesn't mean you have to be cruel. Sparrow has much more of a moral compass than Troy and that's what ultimately brings them together - her fire to his ice - and eventually what nearly tears them apart.

I could not put this book down - and being sick didn't deter me! I finished it and loved every minute of it. I only wish there was still more for me to read. This book ended on a positive note, very different from how it first started, but nevertheless it is complete and I'm happy with that. I would just love read what happens to Sam in the coming years...

Review: Left Behind

Left Behind Left Behind by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5 Emotionally Crippled Stars!

The secret of this book is pretty much a given from the beginning, especially if you have paid attention to the small details (like I have), so that wasn't much of a shock to me.

However, that's not to say that this doesn't deliver on other shocking revelations. OMG... it totally does, in spades! I'm still reeling from them. I just... can't believe a grown woman can hold so much resentment towards an innocent child, especially one who was so clueless as Nikki was.

Poor Nikki has lost her world - her mom is dead. She's about to be put into the foster system with no way of escape until her 18th birthday. Until she gets a letter from her mom saying that she's got family she didn't know about and perhaps they can help her now.

Zack has also lost his world - his girlfriend Emily. Although things have been rough lately between them, they've been friends turned more over the years. Except for one night when an argument leads to a rift that can never be bridged.

Is it possible that the fates have aligned for Zach and Nikki to come together to heal one another? Or is just a cruel twist of fate? To me, this is NO cruel twist of fate, but it isn't exactly fate bringing them together either. They were more than likely never supposed to meet, but they did. I don't call that fate, I call it happenstance.

In any case, back to the big secrets revealed - I wanted to physically punch someone afterward (you'll know who after reading). Like seriously wanted them to end up with a big fat lip, with blood dripping down. I hate careless adults who blame kids for their parents actions. But karma is a bitch, and this person - although its not really revealed what happens to them - does get a dose of it, and rightly so!

I love this book... it will stay with me for quite some time afterward. Beautifully written and worthy of sequel - if the authors ever decide to do one. But even if they don't - it ended on a well note, although some questions I have still linger. I guess its time to employ my over active imagination to construct the answers.
