Review: Broken Knight

Broken Knight Broken Knight by L.J. Shen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Final Score - 5+ Stars!!!

I thought I was ready to read this book. After the author announced the release of the book I was eagerly waiting - with bated breath and anticipation for it to hit my kindle so I could delve right in again to my favorite group of people in my favorite fictional (sorta) town in the world.

My heart and head were nowhere near prepared ... I will never be the same afterward either.

From the moment it hit my kindle, I was consumed with the story. These characters are written with such captivating, raw, intense, addictive and deeply emotional life experiences - it's hard to imagine that they are fictional at times and not walking, talking, breathing actual beings on this Earth. From Chapter 11 onto the end of the book, was the emotional dam for me - there was not a chapter afterward that I just did not ball my eyes out. That's how affected I was by the words on the pages. When I writer can get those emotions out of me - you've hit the jackpot.

I knew coming into this book that it would push me to these emotions - given the subject matter. The author was upfront about that. But what I didn't realize is that in reading her works, I desperately NEEDED to read this particular story. It's affected me in ways I didn't know it would. It has inspired me with being able to forgive people who have hurt me, find hope in building myself up, and motivate me to live and enjoy life fully.

I knew Knight and Luna would break me - and they did, so many times. But what I love about them is their fierceness and their connection to one another. They stumble, the fall, they hurt, they lash out, but in the end - they are each others greatest strengths and each others weakness. They just had to work out the kinks and decide how they were going to let that affect them going forward.

LJ Shen has created a vivid, stunning, poignantly crafted masterpiece, but has taken it one step further with Broken Knight. There are few authors in my opinion who write unforgettable books. Once you read this one - there will NEVER, ever be a time you remember an author's work more than this book or it's writers name. I am still overwhelmed with emotions, even after having just finished reading the book not 15-20 mins. ago.

A standing ovation or an aria? You decide. After you read Broken Knight by LJ Shen!
